About This Course:
All sound calculations meet relevant international standards: ASHRAE, ISO, and ASTM.
This two (2) day training program uses the knowledge of industrial noise control and acoustics to apply the rules to design reactive and absorptive (dissipative) exhaust mufflers. Reactive mufflers use reflections of sound energy at the discontinuities in the exhaust mufflers to attenuate the exhaust sound, while absorptive mufflers use an absorptive material that absorbs sound. In a diesel engine exhaust system, sound is normally higher at lower frequencies than at higher frequencies. The design of the exhaust mufflers must consider these facts.
This training concentrates on the methodology of design and how to optimize it by using combined reactive and absorptive types together, supported with exercises.

Learning Objectives:
- To qualify the designers and manufacturers to design and manufacture exhaust silencers.
- To understand the diesel engine’s exhaust sound characteristics.
- To understand expansion chambers and sound wave reflections.
- To understand the reactive muffler design and insertion loss.
- To understand the dissipative muffler design and insertion loss.
- To understand the combined reactive/dissipative muffler design and insertion loss.
- To use the NEC-developed ExSound muffler design tool.
